Landscape & Outdoor Living

Landscape lighting works by omission. A garden lit evenly disappears; a garden with a few lit trees, a grazed wall and a soft wash under a pergola reads as depth. The strip's job is usually to be invisible while the thing it lights is not.

Everything outdoors is a wet location eventually. Irrigation, run-off, snowmelt and pressure washing all arrive at connections that were specified for rain, which is why joints and terminations fail long before the LEDs do.

Warm and restrained is the register that works after dark. High output and cool color temperatures read as security lighting; 2700K at modest levels reads as an outdoor room, and the eye adapts downward at night far more than daytime instinct suggests.
